PhytoDoc Limited: a new user experience

done for
PhytoDoc Limited
PhytoDoc is a phytotherapy and naturopathy web portal that has been active for nearly 10 years and needed a complete relaunch. My client Brain Appeal GmbH asked me to join the project team as a new user experience design was also on the to do list.

I started with an analysis of PhytoDoc’s target groups using statistics from their website and social media accounts. The analysis allowed us to define two primary and two secondary user groups, which we could then optimize for. A competitor analysis gave insight on what the target groups would expect from a service such as PhytoDoc.

Next step was a new information architecture, which was less complex and nested than the old version representing a click pattern more familiar to the defined target groups. The interaction design was created in Balsamiq in close collaboration with the art department and the development team.

The challenge was to take the information which had accumulated in a decade and reshape it to fit modern user patterns and expectations, while considering the current database structure and technical possibilities. Another requirement was that the new concept had to be able to host a defined list of online advertisement options.

Phytodoc are currently still in the process of the relaunch and are rolling out one feature after the other.
